About training in Türkiye

How pilot training is regulated

Pilot licensing in Türkiye is set out in the SHY-1 Pilot Licence Regulation and, for aeroplanes, helicopters, powered-lift and airships, in the SHT-FCL licensing instruction, which SHGM states is aligned with the European Commission's flight crew licensing regulation. Licence categories and hour minimums follow the LAPL, PPL, CPL, MPL and ATPL structure. Training for licences is delivered by SHGM-authorised Approved Training Organisations (ATO) under the SHT-ORA instruction, and medical certification is covered by SHT-MED. Foreign licences can be converted under a separate instruction, SHT-1LC.

Training pathways

  • Private (recreational) flying

SHGM says a private pilot licence is enough for flying as a hobby, while earning a living as a pilot needs a licence at commercial level.

    Source

  • Professional pilot

Commercial and airline-level licences are issued under SHT-FCL; CPL training is delivered by an authorised ATO, with integrated and modular routes carrying different hour minimums.

SHT-FCL
Licensing instruction for aeroplane, helicopter, powered-lift and airship pilots.
SHT-ORA

Medical, language and instruction

SHT-MED sets medical requirements: at least Class 2 for PPL (and SPL/BPL) and Class 1 for CPL, MPL and ATPL; certificates are issued by SHGM-authorised aeromedical bodies and examiners. Official medical information

Pilots who must use the radio need language proficiency recorded on the licence; the minimum acceptable level is operational level (Level 4). Turkish or English proficiency can be proved under SHT-1DY.

Languages of instruction among researched schools: Turkish, English.

International students

The sources read do not describe a student-visa process for foreign flight students. Foreign nationals converting a foreign licence must hold a valid Turkish residence or work permit, so a foreign student should check residence-permit rules with the Presidency of Migration Management and confirm training eligibility with the chosen ATO. Nothing here promises a visa or admission.

Training approval does not establish immigration permission or international-student eligibility. Verify current rules with the official sources above.

Foreign licences and conversion

SHT-1LC governs conversion of licences issued by foreign states meeting ICAO Annex 1 into SHT-FCL licences; for example a PPL conversion needs a written air law and human performance exam, 100 hours as pilot, at least a Class 2 medical, language proficiency in Turkish or English and a skill test with an SHGM check pilot. Applicants must also meet all prerequisites and flight requirements in SHT-FCL for the licence category.
